Managing Point to Point

Point to Point are types of products which offer transfer from one point to another. Think of it as a shuttle service with intermittent stops. In Ventrata terminology stops are called points, which are grouped into point groups, or zones, and the time table of your service is divided into runs, or cycles, which are intervals of transfer.

In this article you will find guidance on how to
Manage Rates using point groups
and how to
Manage Run Availability.

To learn how to set up your product as a Point to Point, read our article How to Create a Point to Point Product.

Manage Rates

Prerequisites:
Tickets (adult, children, etc.) for the product are set up

Single Rate

Set a base rate for all start and all finish point groups. This means that the same rate applies for any combination of journeys, regardless of the distance, whether it is a journey between two consecutive points, or one between two points the furthest apart. You can use this rate for journeys within a point group.

In your Ventrata dashboard, go to Product > Products.

Products - Products

Select your Point to Point product.
Go to the Rates tab.

Rates

In the modifiers section, select 'All From Point Groups' and 'All To Point Groups'.

Point Groups Modifiers

Enter a price for each ticket type.

Enter Price

Press the SAVE CHANGES button.

Save Changes

Point Group to Point Group Rates

Set separate rates for journeys between different point groups. Manually adjust the price based on the distance or travel time between two point groups.

In your Ventrata dashboard, go to Product > Products.

Products - Products

Select your Point to Point product.
Go to the Rates tab.

Rates

In the modifiers section, select a from point group and a to point group.

Point Group Modifiers

Enter a price for each ticket type.

Enter Price

Press the SAVE CHANGES button.
Repeat steps 4.-6. for all applicable point group combinations.

You can make use of Ventrata's dynamic pricing tool to automatically adjust your rates based on predefined criteria. To learn more about his capability, read our article on Fares.

Manage Run Availability

Availability encompasses a set of parameters (capacity, opening hours) that are taken into account when a booking is taking place. With Point to Point products you are more likely to manage product availability around runs.

Prerequisites:
Opening hours for the product are set

In your Ventrata dashboard, go to Product > Products.

Products - Products

Select your Point to Point product.
On the product page, go to the General Availability tab.

General Availability

Select 'Run' on the vertical axis and select 'Weekday' on the horizontal axis.
Select one of the runs and enter the run's capacity for every day of the week.

If you have resources, you have the option to use their capacity. Learn more about resources in our article How to Use Resources and Resource Groups.

Press the Save button.

Run Capacity

Select a run availability where the run and day of the week cross.
Untick 'Open' to close availability for the selected run on the selected day.
Press the Save button.

Close Run Availability

Find out more about availability in our articles Availability Management and How to Set Product Availability.

Verify Availability in Manifest

Go to Calendar.
Create a manifest for your Point to Point product.
Go to Calendar > [point-to-point-manifest].

Calendar - Manifest

Every combination of point-to-point is displayed under the Options column, while the exact time schedule is calculated based on the information provided in the run setup. Check whether the availability displayed in the calendar matches that in General Availability.
